Addiction - What is an addiction? How can an Intervention Help with my Addiction?

Addiction is an insidious disease. It can make sufferers create a whole different reality for themselves in order to explain their actions. Many will use the typical excuses such as, "Its just recreational" or "I can stop anytime I want". In many cases a one on one with a loved one is not enough to convince them they have a problem. Sometimes "It takes a village". That's what an intervention is.

Intervention involves a group process to motivate the alcohol or drug addict to enter a treatment program for his or her disease. Intervention shows the loved one the effects of their drinking or drug use on both the addict and those closest to him or her.
An arranged meeting brings together the addict with members of his family, friends, employer, co-workers, or others who have closely observed the harmful effects on his or her life. The intervention creates a potential turning point in the alcoholic's life by presenting a fairly full and realistic picture of the harm that his drinking is causing.

An intervention must be well planned and relevant to the addict's circumstances. Check our resources section for more information or Call our Toll Free Number 1-800-841-2440.
